Running out of hot water?

Do you always run out of hot water?

This problem may be caused by sediment build up. Mineral deposits in water heaters are a direct result of irregular maintenance checks, so it's possible you haven't been draining your water heater consistently, if at all. Your best bet at fixing this problem is to do away with the buildup of calcium and other minerals by flushing your water heater. If the sediment build up is too thick for you to drain, ask for professional assistance and be prepared for heater repair or replacement. Please remember: flushing your water heater should be done annually.  If your water heater has never been flushed and it's over 4-5 years old... make sure to consult a professional before flushing it.  You could do more harm than good.

Routine Toilet Maintenance

The following tips will help not only extend the life of your toilet but will also help water conservation efforts. Remember: every drop counts!

#1) Replace your toilet flapper annually.

#2) Check for leaks annually.

Directions for Toilet leak detection:
Dispense a few drops of food coloring into your toilet tank. DO NOT FLUSH! Wait 10 minutes... If the water in the bowl turns color, you have a leak. Call your plumber to correct the problem.

Plumbing DIY

Do It Yourself:
(jollymom.com)

Use salt, baking soda and vinegar to clean out plumbing and sewer drains. Water use can leave calcium, lime, mineral and rust deposits inside of drains and plumbing pipes. Hair, food and other debris also clog pipes and drains. Use vinegar to remove lime, calcium and rust and to disinfect the drain. Salt and baking soda scrub the insides of the drains and pipes. Baking soda also helps with bad odors. These three materials are safe on plumbing and for pets and children.

Plumbing Fun Facts:

The word "plumbing" comes from the Latin plumbum for lead, as pipes were once made from lead.
The use of lead for potable water declined sharply after World War II because of increased awareness of the dangers of lead poisoning. At this time, copper piping was introduced as a better and safer alternative to lead pipes.[3]

Did you Know?

Did you Know?

Regulations:
Much of the plumbing work in populated areas is regulated by government or quasi-government agencies due to the direct impact on the public's health, safety, and welfare. Plumbing installation and repair work on residences and other buildings generally must be done according to plumbing and building codes to protect the inhabitants of the buildings and to ensure safe, quality construction to future buyers. If permits are required for work, plumbing contractors typically secure them from the authorities on behalf of home or building owners.

That's right!  Make sure that your plumber is licensed and ALWAYS pulls permits for projects requiring them.  Price Wise Plumbing, Co. will always pull a permit on work that requires one and will let you, the customer, know when inspection has been passed.  "Call the Nice Guys at Price Wise!" for a job well done.

Plumbing Funnies :)

Plumbing Funnies:
A local doctor called a plumber out in the middle of the night because one of his toilets was blocked.
He insisted that it was urgent and that they attend immediately. Upon arrival they lifted the toilet lid, threw in two aspirins, and said ‘If it’s still there in the morning, give us another ring.’
